Ideas

These candidates are outside the accepted roadmap. Their order does not represent a scored priority. Before implementation, each idea needs discovery evidence, privacy and security review, explicit success measures, and an ADR when it changes data ownership, a bounded context, a public contract or the privacy wall.

1. Lot-level recall alerts

Match lot/serial-qualified Fridge items against authoritative recall feeds such as EU RASFF or the applicable US agency feed. The discovery phase must verify identifier compatibility, source latency/completeness, notification liability, false-negative handling and whether PackyTrace may claim that a warning is safety-critical. Any brand-facing reach metric must still pass through the minimum-group-size privacy gate.

2. Household and caregiver profiles

Allow a consumer to evaluate products for several household members or manage another person's profile with authorization. This changes consent, delegation, revocation, tenancy and audit requirements and therefore requires a domain workshop and ADR; it is not only a UI extension.

3. Food-drug interaction research

Medication-aware verdicts would introduce highly sensitive medication data and clinical decision support. Work is blocked pending clinical evidence and governance, regulated-product assessment, licensed/provenanced rule sources, versioning and recall of rules, false-positive/false-negative safety policy, specialist review, and a dedicated privacy/security architecture. A rules dataset alone is insufficient, and this capability must not be added to the current Verdict model without those decisions.

4. Accessibility improvements

Evaluate screen-reader-first passports, spoken verdicts, keyboard/camera alternatives, plain language and additional reviewed locales. Native camera launch works only when a compatible device recognizes an encoded URL; plain EAN/UPC barcodes still require an application scanner. Accessibility claims should be verified with representative users and WCAG testing rather than inferred from the technology choice.

5. Food-waste cost estimates

Combine Fridge freshness and recipe suggestions to help consumers use expiring food, and explore estimated avoided cost. Price provenance, currency, household attribution and uncertainty must be defined before displaying monetary savings. Fridge and Shopping List ownership boundaries remain unchanged unless discovery identifies a new domain responsibility.

6. Regulatory and standards monitoring

Track the EU Digital Product Passport rollout and GS1's 2D-barcode transition as external drivers, not as current food mandates. ESPR introduces DPP requirements progressively through product-specific delegated acts and other legislation; food is not assumed in scope. GS1 Sunrise 2027 is an industry target for retail point-of-sale systems to process defined 2D barcodes alongside existing barcodes, not a universal replacement guarantee.

Differentially private research outputs would create a new data-use purpose and require consent, threat modeling, a formal privacy budget and an ADR before any consumer fact is repurposed.
